COLUMBIA, S.C. -

South Carolinas unemployment rate dropped slightly in February to 8.6 percent.

The number of people working in South Carolina is at it's highest level since August of 2008.

The state Department of Employment and Workforce reports that's down one-tenth of a point from the 8.7 percent figure in January. The national jobless rate last month was 7.7 percent.

SCDEW reports 1,991,575 are employed now in the state. That's an increase in employment of more than 26,000 people from one year ago.

The leisure and hospitality industry plus government were the sectors leading the way in job gains.

Here are the unemployment rates for counties in the Upstate in February:

Union - 13.9%
Cherokee - 11.6%
Abbeville - 10.2%
Greenwood - 10.2%
