Over 400 people attended the 58th annual Easter Sunrise Service on Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park Sunday morning.

The large crowd braved the drizzling rain and cool temperature to embrace one of the holiest days of the year. According to Matt Popowski of Chimney Rock Management, one man in attendance has attended 55 of the 58 services since the inaugural event in 1955.

The large crowd was bundled up and some even had umbrellas to avoid the light rain. At the beginning of the event, Ken Potter, of Bat Cave, North Carolina, and one of his friends, played the bagpipes to signal the sunrise.
