Updated: April 5, 2013

A construction project in Spartanburg County will require the closure of the Highway 292 Bridge over Interstate 26.

Starting Friday, April 5 the South Carolina Department of Transportation says the bridge will be blocked to motorists so crews can raise and repair it.

While it's closed, drivers will be detoured along I-26.

The bridge is scheduled to be back open on May 5.

The DOT is asking drivers in the area to slow down and be aware of equipment and crews at all times.

SCDOT warns drivers that lane closures may occur on Interstate 26 in Spartanburg County for the next month-and-a-half.

Construction of scaffolding at the SC 292 bridge, may periodically result in the closure of the left lane of I-26 Eastbound and the shoulder of I-26 Westbound between mile markers 6 and 11.

The work is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday April 2nd. On days when the lanes will be closed, they will reopen no later than 6 p.m.

The closures will take place periodically until May 17.

SCDOT asks all drivers near the project's construction zone to use caution and take notice of crews, speed limit reduction signs, and message board information in the affected areas.
