SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. -

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office moved a memorial to fallen deputy Kevin Carper, from Interstate 85, to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Kevin Carper was shot and killed during a traffic stop in February 2007. He had served with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office for 12 years, and left behind a wife and three daughters.

A memorial to Carper was built on Interstate 85 at Exit 69. Deputies worried the ground there was eroding around the memorial.

On Tuesday, a construction company moved Carper's memorial to the Sheriff's Office. A cement slab was poured for it to rest on.

Sheriff Wright and those involved in the creation of the monument felt the best place for it was at the Sheriff's Office on Howard Street. In it's new home more people can view the monument and remember the ultimate sacrifice Deputy Carper made the evening of February 27, 2007 while protecting and serving the citizens of Spartan-burg County.
