Must-see Pics: Someone Destroys Upstate Restaurant

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. -

Destruction best describes what's left behind at a Boiling Springs restaurant that will be closed until further notice after someone ripped it apart.

John Sipsis, who with his wife owns Branzino Grill, said he discovered the damage Tuesday morning after being closed Sunday and Monday.

Inside, roof tiles and lights have been ripped down; every booth and chair have been cut, with what appears to be a skill saw; plates, cups, and bottles of liquor were smashed; the food in the refrigerator and freezer was doused with bleach; kitchen equipment -- including ovens, grills, and mixers -- was heavily damaged.

Sipsis estimates tens of thousands of dollars in damages, and he said he doesn't know who did it, though he suspects competitors may have played a role. Sipsis wouldn't name anyone in particular, and investigators with Spartanburg County said they are looking into every angle, though right now they don't have any persons of interest.

Sipsis said he opened the Branzino Grill in December after spending lots of money and seven months remodeling the building which used to be a BBQ joint.

Sipsis says he's spent quite a lot of time in the restaurant business, most recently as the owner of the Boston Pizzeria on Spartanburg's east side.

Online records show Carolina Alliance Bank filed for foreclosure against Boston Pizzeria and Sipsis in May of 2012, and this past October a judge ordered Sipsis pay almost $160,000 to the bank.

Sipsis said Wednesday that he had sold the Pizzeria some years ago.

The Sipsis family is offering a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to the people responsible for this week's vandalism. People with information on the case should call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
