Cold Rain For Upstate, Winter Weather Advisory For Mountains Thurs.

Posted: Updated:
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -

Rain and clouds are expected throughout the day Thursday, with a chance for a mix of sleet and freezing rain, and even snow, in some mountain areas.

Storm Team 7 Forecasters say the precipitation will continue overnight.

Meteorologist Dan Bickford says a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. for elevations above 3,500 feet in the central and northern mountains of western North Carolina, plus Transylvania County.

"A mix of sleet and freezing rain is expected in these areas...with even some snow in the highest elevations," Bickford adds.  "Accumulation of any snow and ice will result in some slick areas.  Precipitation should switch to mainly rain by this evening."

The Upstate will experience a cold rain.

Light rain could fall early Friday morning, but things should clear up and give way to a sunny, warm weekend.
