Three Rutherford County Business Owners Arrested, Charged In Bath Salt Investigation

Posted: Updated:

Three Rutherford County business owners were arrested and charged in an investigation that spanned almost two years.

Rutherford County Sheriff's officials said that members of the office's Narcotic Unit arrested and charged Tehsin Khan, Snehal Janak Desai and Robert Shannon Cox with selling bath salts. According to officials, the investigation began in July 2011 after Bath Salts were deemed illegal by the North Carolina General Assembly.

Officials say they seized the bath salt which the businesses were selling and submitted it to the state crime lab for analysis. Test results showed that Khan's business, Mustang 2 in Forest City, as well as Desai's business, Sai-Mart in Rutherfordton; and Cox's business, Puff and Stuff in Forest City, were all selling the banned chemical.

Khan and Cox were charged with one count each of possession with intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance. Desai was charged with one count of trafficking bath salt. Khan and Cox were being held at the Rutherford County Detention Center on $15,000 bond, while Desai was being held on a $25,000 bond.

Sheriff's Office officials state that the Narcotics Unit also seized over $7,000 in cash from the business owners.
