SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. -

A Wellford man is accused of shoplifting after a sheriff's deputy says he found him with stolen items hidden in his pants.

Brandon Ryan Bennett, 34, is charged with shoplifting by the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office after his arrest Sunday night at a Fred's store on Blackstock Road in Roebuck.

The SCSO deputy was called to the store Sunday afternoon where the suspect was said to be in a bathroom with items taken from store shelves.

The deputy stated he could hear noise coming from the bathroom that sounded like plastic wrapping being opened. The store manager opened the door and the deputy claimed Bennett had a shopping cart filled with merchandise.

The deputy said Bennett had a pair of pants stuffed inside his pants along with two packages of a small air freshener by Febreeze called Noticables that contained multiple bottles each.

He also had a large amount of Q-Tip cotton swabs inside his sock near his ankle and was wearing a brand of stretch boxer shorts that is sold by Fred's.

The stolen items were valued at $67.

The SCSO incident report says Bennett had previous shoplifting convictions in 1998 and 2010.
