PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. -

A dead bat was found in a classroom of a Pickens County elementary school, district officials say.

It happened at East End Elementary around 10 a.m. Monday.

According to a news release from the district, the student who found the bat told the teacher, and the teacher made the students wash their hands while custodians disposed of the bat and disinfected the classroom.

School officials say none of the students came in contact with the bat.

No other bats were found, and there is no evidence of bats living in, or frequenting the building.

This is the first report of a bat being spotted at East End.

The district says parents were notified.
