ANDERSON, SC -

Anderson City Firefighters are getting recognition for helping save lives during medical calls.

Several years ago, firefighters started responding to medical needs in addition to fighting fires and responding to motor vehicle accidents.

At Monday night's city council meeting Chief Dale Horne told the council they recently started a program to recognize firefighters who stood out for their response. In one recent case, a firefighter was able to re-establish a breathing passageway for a victim of a car crash.

Chief Horne said their medical first responders program has saved 11 to 15 lives in the last year.
