Furman's search for a new head basketball coach has come to an end as Colorado State assistant Niko Medved is the choice to replace Jeff Jackson, who stepped down last month, a source familiar with the search tells 7 On Your Side.

Medved interviewed earlier this week. CBSSports.com first reported the hiring Wednesday night.

Medved, a one-time Furman assistant, was one of three finalists along with head coaches Chris Holtman of Gardner-Webb, and Mike Maker of Division Three Williams College in Massachusetts, according to the South Carolina News Network.

An official announcement will be made Friday and an introductory news conference will take place early next week according to a school spokesman.

Furman sought a replacement for Jackson, who stepped down last month after seven years on the job and a seven-win campaign this past season.
