Two people were found shot dead at a home in Greer Thursday afternoon.

Greer Police Department spokesman Lt. Jim Holcombe said that a neighbor found the bodies of a man and woman in the backyard of the house on West Church Street.  A gun was beside one of the bodies, he added.

Greenville County Deputy Coroner Mike Elllis stated that the victims had suffered gunshot wounds. Coroner's Office investigator Kent Dill stated that the victim's identities had not been positively identified, but they are believed to be residents of the home.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday. Holcombe added that investigators do not believe there is a threat to the community.

The case is being treated as a double homicide
