A South Carolina man faces a weapons charge after police say he accidentally left a handgun behind after checking out of a western New York motel.

Ontario County Sheriff's deputies say a housekeeper at the Microtel in the town of Victor found a semi-automatic handgun under a pillow while cleaning rooms on Saturday.

Police traced the gun to 25-year-old Roman Namonyuk of Chesnee, S.C., who had been in the Rochester area for a wedding. The man was charged with criminal possession of a weapon because he didn't have a New York pistol permit
