SPARTANBURG, S.C. -

Police at USC Upstate are trying to identify a man who they say broke into an ATM, set it on fire and burned a portion of the HEC building.

Investigators say someone broke into the Health and Education Complex on April 13 around 1:00 a.m.

He broke into the ATM in the main corridor across from the bookstore using a pry bar and an acetylene torch.

Police say the ATM caught fire and burned walls around the machine. The main floor and third floor of the HEC building suffered smoke damage as a result.

The Department of Public Safety is trying to identify a man seen in video that was released. He's believed to be white, between 5'8" and 5'10" and weighing between 150 and 170 pounds.

He was seen wearing black shoes, white gloves, white socks, black pants, a white collared shirt, a long sleeved black and blue stripped sweater and a ski mask with welding goggles.

Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Paula Brewster with University Police at (864) 503-5271. You can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-274-6372 if you wish to remain anonymous.
