A Gaffney woman received a 20-year prison sentence, followed by 5 years of probation after she admitted to driving recklessly and causing the wreck that killed her 8-year-old daughter.

Samantha Rhinehart pleaded guilty Thursday to reckless homicide, two counts of first-degree assault and battery and child endangerment. The judge sentenced her to 20 years in prison followed by a consecutive 10 year sentence suspended to 5 years probation.

The wreck happened January 11, 2013 on Corinth Road. Court records showed Rhinehart was driving about 62 miles an hour in a 45 mile an hour zone when she ran off the shoulder, overcorrected, ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree.

Rhinehart's daughter, 8-year-old Anna Marie, died from injuries sustained in the crash. 2 other passengers were hurt.

"This case is a senseless tragedy," Solicitor Barry Barnette said. "Samantha Rhinehart had no business driving and placing so many people in harm's way."

Samantha Rhinehart's prior criminal record included multiple convictions for driving under suspension for forgery.
