UNION, S.C. -

Union County Sheriff's deputies say the mayor of Jonesville in Union County has been arrested and charged with solicitation for prostitution late Thursday.

Deputies say Union County Drug Task Force Officers set up surveillance on a location on North Main Street in Jonesville after an undercover operative for the Sheriff's Office advised officers they had pre-arranged to meet with Mayor Ernest B. Moore, Jr.

Audio and video equipment was placed at the location prior to Moore's arrival.

They say Moore offered the operative money in exchange for sexual favors.

A short time later, deputies say Moore arrived at the location and gave the operative $50, as they discussed what sexual favors would take place, then deputies say an agreement was made.

Then officers received a signal from the operative and moved in to confront Moore.

Deputies say a warrant was signed after deputies reviewed the audio and video.

They say Moore turned himself into the Union County Jail around 5:25 pm Thursday.

Mayor Ernest Moore, Jr. faces one charge of solicitation for prostitution. The Union County Detention Center says Moore is out of jail on bond.

Moore has been mayor since May of 2008.
