Greenville's Southern Connector To Close For Show

GREENVILLE, S.C. -

A toll road south of Greenville is will be closed for three days for the taping of a television show.

"We watch through the backyard just to see if we can catch a glimpse of something different or unusual," says Darleen Ramey who lives a half mile from the Southern Connector.

Officials said the Southern Connector closed Sunday at 10 p.m. and stay closed until 10 p.m. Wednesday. The road is also known as Interstate 185.

Southern Connector spokesman Tim Brett says a production company is paying $60,000 to make up for the lost tolls. The crew is filming a show on Cinemax called "Banshee."

We hate to shut the road down and inconvenience our patrons," adds Southern Connector GM Peter Femia, "but we thought this was a great opportunity to promote the Upstate."

Officials say the entire Southern Connector will be closed from Interstate 385 to Interstate 85.

The Southern Connector has never made a Hollywood debut, and locals are more than eager to say "welcome to big screen."

"It's generating revenue for Greenville which keeps our taxes down, so I am happy about that," says Judy Hines.

I think it is outstanding. It is going to bring interest to this area," says Cleve Dobbins.
