AAA: Gas prices will likely continue to go down

Posted: Updated:

Gas prices continue to fall in April, down 40 cents from the same time last year, according to the American Automobile Association the Auto Club.

Average retail gasoline prices in Florida have fallen 4.9 cents per gallon in the past week.

The prices average at $3.47 a gallon state-wide according to AAA, or $3.45 as GasBuddy.com reports. This is about 40 cents lower than this time last year according to both sites.

AAA representatives explained the trend by a strengthened dollar and the nation's rising oil output.

"Given the state of supply and demand fundamentals, gas prices will likely continue on this downward path for the next few weeks," said Jessica Brady with AAA The Auto Club Group.

Patrick DeHaan with GasBuddy.com said the slow downward trend has survived another week.

"With Memorial Day just five weeks away, there's good news for motorists: prices will likely continue to lag behind year ago levels," he said.
