Gastonia Woman Has Rare Video Game

GASTONIA, N.C. -

The owner of a video game store in Charlotte says a Gastonia woman has obtained a copy of a very rare video game from the 1980s.

The Gaston Gazette reports that Wilder Hamm of Save Point Video Games was surprised to see the Nintendo game "Stadium Events."

Hamm didn't get the name of the woman who came in for an appraisal. She said she had paid $8 for the game at a Goodwill store.

An online auction site offering the game identifies the seller as a North Carolina college student. There's been an offer of $12,000.

The game was issued in 1987 but because of licensing issues the games were ordered destroyed. But about 200 copies already had been sold. There are thought to be only about dozen left.
