Nonprofit Interested In Myrtle Beach Theme Park

Posted: Updated:

A church-related group is interested in buying the old Freestyle Music Park, a theme park in Myrtle Beach that has not opened for the past three years.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that Abiding Village, a church group offering art classes and other outreach programs in nearby Fantasy Harbor, wants to raise $10 million to buy the park and its buildings.

It would not buy the rides.

Abiding Village is an arm of Christ United Methodist Church. An attorney representing the theme park owners refused to comment on the development. A mortgage holder that reclaimed the park through foreclosure has been looking for a buyer.

The park became Freestyle Music Park after the original owners operating it as Hard Rock Park ran into financial problems in 2008.
