Clemson's Hopkins Taken In First Round Of NFL Draft

Posted: Updated:

Clemson's DeAndre Hopkins was selected 27th overall in Thursday night's opening round of the NFL Draft, becoming the 23rd Tiger all-time taken in the first round.

The former Daniel High star joins a team with one of the league's top offenses that already features All-Pro wide receiver Andre Johnson, quarterback Matt Schaub, and running back Arian Foster.

Hopkins is the first Clemson player to leave after his junior season and get picked in round one since Anthony Simmons in 1998. He's the first Tigers wide receiver taken in the first round since Rod Gardner in 2001.

The last Tiger to be picked in the Draft's opening around was C.J. Spiller in 2010.

Hopkins had 82 receptions this past season.
