SPARTANBURG, S.C. -

Piedmont Natural Gas is opening its ninth Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling station in the Upstate.

A grand opening celebration was held at the new station, which is located at 501 West Blackstock Road in Spartanburg. It is open to commercial fleet vehicles as well as the general public. Piedmont Natural Gas says this latest station is a sign of growing demand, as more companies convert their fleets of cars and trucks to natural gas.

"With clean-burning, affordable natural gas produced right here in the U.S., corporate fleet owners can cut their costs, reduce their carbon footprint and increase our nation's energy security all at once," said Karl Newlin, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Piedmont Natural Gas.

Corporate fleet owners have reported savings of up to 28 percent by switching to natural gas from diesel. America's Natural Gas Alliance, a trade group, also says natural gas vehicles emit an average 25 percent less carbon dioxide than traditional gasoline or diesel.
