ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. -

The Anderson County Fraternal Order of Police is placing U.S. flags and memorials on more than a dozen graves to honor their service.

A representative of Anderson FOP Lodge #10 is honoring 16 men - who died while protecting the citizens of Anderson County - between 1920 and 2009.

Three other men died elsewhere, but were buried in Anderson County at Old Silver Brook Cemetery. We're told the men died from assaults or traffic accidents.

"These officers paid their life to protect the citizens of Anderson County, said Mike Loftis, Anderson County Fraternal Order of Police. "

They left family members alone. And we just think more emphasis needs to be made there to show that we remember them and we appreciate what they did."

The flags being placed Wednesday will fly throughout the month.
