Hartwell Lake Campgrounds Open for the Summer

Two campgrounds in Oconee County will remain open through September 30th. Two campgrounds in Oconee County will remain open through September 30th.
OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. -

Upstate families can once again enjoy the great outdoors at Hartwell Lake Campgrounds.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has officially opened the campgrounds and day-use areas for the 2013 recreation season.

The two campgrounds in Oconee County will remain open through September 30th. The Coneross Campground is located on the Seneca River and has a total of 106 sites. Oconee Point Campground offers 70 waterfront sites. All sites are equipped with electric and water hook-ups. Shower and restroom facilities are also located throughout the parks. Other amenities include:

  • dump stations
  • swim beach
  • playgrounds
  • park attendant
  • a boat ramp with courtesy dock and security lighting

Campgrounds in Hart County, Georgia will welcome campers through September 9th. The Georgia River Campground is located on the Savannah River. It offers 13 primitive campsites, restroom facilities and fishing piers. Meanwhile, the Paynes Creek Campground has 44 sites that are equipped with electric and water hook-ups. Other amenities at this campground include:

  • shower/restroom facilities
  • dump station
  • playgrounds
  • park attendant
  • boat ramp with courtesy dock and security lighting
  • 9 mile multi-purpose trail

Campers may also want to head to the Crescent Group Campground off Highway 29 in Anderson County. It is open through September 30th. The campground consists of two loops that include 32 sites in all, and can be reserved for large groups to camp together. All sites are equipped with electric and water hook-ups. Other amenities at this campground include:

  • shower/restroom facilities
  • dump station
  • playground
  • park hosts
  • two picnic shelters

In addition to the above campgrounds, the following day-use areas will also be open through September 9th.

  • Singing Pines Day-Use Area, Anderson County, S.C.
  • River Forks Day-Use Area, Anderson County, S.C.
  • Twin Lakes Day-Use Area, Pickens County, S.C.
  • Twelve Mile Day-Use Area, Pickens County, S.C.
  • Elrod Ferry Day-Use Area, Hart County, Ga.

These areas provide picnic shelters, picnic sites, restroom facilities, playgrounds, swim beaches and boat ramps with a courtesy dock and security lighting:
