Spartanburg Plans To Expand Parks Department

Posted: Updated:
SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. -

Spartanburg County Parks Department hopes to continue its expansion plan with help from community partners despite a slow economy. The department took representatives from several upstate groups on a bus tour of several parks and sports complexes Tuesday.

Representatives from groups including Upstate Forever, the Tyger River Foundation and the Tree Coalition of Spartanburg toured the 295 Sports Complex, North Spartanburg Complex, Tyger River Park and Va-Du-Mar McMillan Park while parks officials gathered their ideas for outreach and beautification.

The parks department says fixing up local parks is an important way to bring in new residents and businesses as well as big sports tournaments that can generate millions of dollars for the local economy.
