Greenville County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man who they say was impersonating a law officer.

Freddie James Clark, 27, was arrested Wednesday and charged with impersonating an officer and unlawful use of 911.

The GCSO spokesman says a call was made to the 911 center from a pay phone in the 6500 block of White Horse Road from someone claiming he was a  South Carolina Highway Patrol Officer.

Greenville County dispatchers tried to confirm that with the Highway Patrol when the caller hung up the phone.

Deputies went to the area of the phone call and found two people. Their investigation led to the charges against Clark. Investigators haven't said why Clark made the alleged call to 911.

He's being held in the Greenville County Detention Center Thursday morning with a total bond of $6,000 for the two charges.
