NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. -

The Newberry County Sheriff's Office says the "armed, suicidal" man they'd been searching for on Beagle Run Road Thursday morning has been taken into custody.

Officials got word that the man was seen with a gun, prompting a manhunt in a wooded area on Beagle Run Road between Chapin and Little Mountain on the county line.

Authorities identified the man, who they believed was suicidal.

Deputies tell 7 On Your Side the man came out of the woods for a short time, but went back into cover after being spotted by deputies.

He was later taken into custody unharmed.
