A Spartanburg County deputy who worked as a detention center officer has been arrested by Spartanburg Public Safety on two shoplifting charges, 7 On Your Side has learned.

According to jail records, Charles Marshall, 23, was booked around 6:30 Wednesday night and charged with two counts of shoplifting in connection to an incident that happened in April.

The shopliftings, according to someone familiar with the case, happened at Costco in Spartanburg, though details about the incident are still unclear.

Sheriff Chuck Wright, who is in charge of the county's detention center, said Marshall apologized to him Wednesday for what the sheriff called a "dumb choice."

"You can't do stuff like that," Wright said. "We can forgive a speeding ticket, but not a crime," the sheriff went on to say.

Wright said Marshall has been terminated from the detention center.

Marshall was released from the detention center after being given a $2,000 bond on each of the two charges he faces.
