SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. -

A six hour standoff ended peacefully in Spartanburg County after a man was taken into custody just after 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

Jimmy Larkin Dill, 47, was taken into custody after the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office SWAT team entered the home on Leawood Drive in the Camp Croft area.

Deputies were called to the scene around 5:00 p.m. because of a report of an assault involving Dill and his sister. The victim said her brother had assaulted her for the past few days when Dill came to the door and pointed a handgun at deputies.

His sister told deputies Dill had fired a shot with the gun earlier.

Sheriff's negotiators spent hours trying to convince dill to come out of the house. The SWAT team finally fired tear gas into the home around 11:30 p.m.

Dill was captured without incident and was taken to a hospital to be checked out after being exposed to tear gas.

Dill has been charged with one count of assault and battery third degree and two counts of pointing and presenting a firearm at a person.

A background check from the State Law Enforcement Division shows Dill has been arrested several time since 1990 and has traffic offenses dating back to 2005. He's been convicted driving under the influence three times, driving under suspension and open container.
