Service member returns to surprise son at Ayden-Grifton, Chargers win 3-1

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. -

Master Sergeant Ronnie Mayo returned Thursday morning from Afghanistan to surprise his son. Although Blake Mayo and the Cougars lost the game, that moment meant so much more.

Ayden-Grifton closed their regular season with a win over Goldsboro, 3-1, but the result from the North Duplin, Spring Creek game will determine their fate.

Ayden-Grifton improves to 7-3 in their conference with the win Thursday. The Chargers are in the hunt for the Carolina Conference Championship but now they need some help. They will find out Friday night if they will tie for the regular season crown.
