GREENVILLE, N.C. -

Former East Carolina pitcher Seth Maness made his Major League debut Friday night with St. Louis tossing one inning of scoreless relief in the Cardinals 6-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.

Less than two years after being selected in the 11th round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft, the right-hander entered the contest in the eighth inning and retired the side on six pitches recording three-straight groundouts off the bats of Jean Segura, Ryan Braun and Alex Gonzalez.

Mannes, who was called up by the Cardinals on Monday, Apr. 29, became the 15th player in school history to see action in the Major Leagues and the first since Sam Narron (Milwaukee Brewers), who made his debut on July 30, 2004.

The Pinehurst, N.C. native is one of two Pirates currently on Major League rosters joining Chad Tracy who plays for the Washington Nationals.
