Traffic Flowing After Rock Slide Closes Lanes On I-40 In WNC

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. -

Traffic in two lanes of westbound Interstate 40 are moving after being closed Monday morning due to a rock slide in western North Carolina.

The slide was reported at mile marker 68 between Old Fort and Black Mountain at the Buncombe/McDowell County line around 1 a.m.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation reopened one lane of the interstate at 5:40 a.m.  The remaining lanes were opened to motorists shortly before noon.
