Furman designated hitter Greg Harrison has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week and College of Charleston right-hander Matt Pegler has been named the SoCon Pitcher of the Week for all games April 29 to May 5. The selections are made by the league office.
Harrison continued his spectacular from a torn ACL suffered in Furman's final fall practice, hitting .588 with two home runs and five doubles among his 10 hits in the Paladins' 3-1 week. He slugged 1.235 for the week.
The Hilton Head, S.C., junior, who has seen action in 11 games since his return on April 19, had three hits in each of Furman's first three games on the week, starting with a 3-for-4 showing in a home win over Winthrop on Wednesday. Harrison had a double, a homer and three RBIs in the game as Furman won 6-1.
The Spartanburg Methodist transfer continued to swing a hot bat in the Paladins' series win at Georgia Southern over the weekend. On Friday, Harrison produced a line nearly identical to his Wednesday effort, again going 3-for-4 with a double, a homer and three driven in, this time adding a sacrifice fly. His leadoff blast in the top of the eighth ignited a 10-run inning, which sent Furman to the 13-5 win.
Harrison was 3-for-5 in game two of the series, giving him six straight hits spanning the first two games. He had a pair of doubles and a single and scored Furman's first two runs in the 5-3, 11-inning win. Harrison wrapped up his week with a double, a run and a walk in a 13-9 Georgia Southern win on Sunday.
