Wade Hampton scored seven times in the second inning and rode the 12-strike-out pitching of Tyler Thornton to an 8-1 win over Dorman Monday night in the opening round of the 4A upper state playoffs.

In other action, Byrnes got solid pitching out of Bailey Pearson in a 5-0 win at Mann to survive in 4A upper state softball playoffs.

The girls soccer state tournament go underway and among the game, Mann knocked off visiting Wade Hampton, 3-1.
