Law enforcement K9 caught man in Bradenton after high-speed car chase

Posted: Updated:
MANATEE COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

A law enforcement K9 helped apprehend a man who led deputies on a high-speed chase after holding a woman and her five children hostage in Manatee County.

Manatee County Sheriff's deputies reported that the incident started Monday evening at the home of Victor Alarcon's located at the 1200 block of 72nd Avenue Court East in Rubonia.  Alarcon, 30, had Marisela Nunez, 27, and her five children to his home for a visit, according to the investigation report.

Alarcon and Nunez were arguing when Alarcon grabbed the woman's car keys and told her and the children to get into the car.  Deputies say, he promised to take the woman and her kids home.

According to the MCSO report, Alarcon drove aggressively and scared Nunez and her children.  When he got near her home, he saw police officers there and kept driving.

Alarcon didn't let Nunez and her kids out of the car for another half an hour and eventually dropped them off near Manatee Avenue East.

Police caught up with Alarcon in Palmetto who continued the chase that at times reached speeds of up to 80 miles per hour, deputies reported.

Officials say deputies had to use special devices that punctured Alarcon's tires near Erie Road.  Alarcon almost ran over MCSO deputies and sideswiped a sheriff's cruiser.  When Alarcon finally stopped, he headed into a nearby wooded area.  That's when officials say, a law enforcement K9 took chase after Alarcon.

Alarcon tried to fight off the K9 but was almost immediately taken down, deputies said.   Alarcon was treated for cuts and scrapes and transported to Manatee County Central Jail.

Authorities charged Alarcon with false imprisonment, car theft, assaults on law enforcement and battery on a law enforcement K9 as well as other charges.
