Spartanburg Earns 'Playful City' Honors

Posted: Updated:
Spartanburg, SC -

Spartanburg has once again earned the title of 'Playful City'. Spartanburg is one of just 16 cities and towns nationwide to earn the distinction every year since the program was created in 2007. It's also one of just 6 South Carolina cities to earn the recognition.

The award is given out by national non-profit KaBOOM for efforts to increase play opportunities for children.

Spartanburg recently announced a joint-use agreement with Spartanburg County School Districts 6 and 7 that opens school playgrounds to the public on school holidays, weekends and during the summer months. The agreement is just the second of its kind in South Carolina.

The City of Spartanburg and other Playful City USA communities are now eligible for one of 103 "Let's Play" grants worth $2.1 million.
