Man Killed In Accident In Blacksburg Thursday Morning

Posted: Updated:
BLACKSBURG, S.C. -

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says a 60 year old North Carolina man was killed in a two vehicle collision near Blacksburg Thursday morning.   Fowler identified the deceased as Randy Kale Davis of 5022 Pecan Drive, Shelby.

Davis was the driver and lone occupant of a 2002 Jeep Wrangler that was headed north on Blacksburg Highway. Davis's vehicle was struck in the driver's door by a 2005 Chevrolet Impala that was headed south and attempting to enter the north bound on ramp of Interstate 85 at exit 100.

The coroner says the jeep struck a guard rail and overturned trapping the victim between the ground and the seat.  The coroner pronounced Davis dead at the scene. Davis was wearing a seat belt.

Fowler says an autopsy will be performed to assist with his investigation.  The South Carolina Highway Patrol and its MAIT Team are also investigating the collision.
