Cops Hunt Whoever Shot Family Pets

Posted: Updated:

Someone used a shotgun to shoot two family pets in a Spartanburg County neighborhood, but deputies don't know yet who's responsible.

The two dogs, a 1-year-old blood hound and a 2-year-old hound mix, escaped their backyard fence after someone broke the latch, according to their owner Joanne Rendon.

Rendon let out the dogs to use the restroom May 1 around 5:00 a.m., and by 10:00 a.m., she realized they were gone. Puppy, the hound mix, showed back up a few hours later and was limping.

But it took five days to find Waylon who was lying about a half-mile away from home, but when Rendon found him, the dog wasn't able to walk.

An x-ray revealed Waylon and Puppy had both been shot -- Waylon four times, and Puppy once.

It appears a shotgun was used in the shooting.

Waylon is still at an animal hospital and is undergoing rehab, and right now his owner is unsure if the dog will walk again.

Deputies say they've been able to solve similar cases in the past, and if someone is arrested they would be arrested with ill-treatment toward animals, a misdemeanor or felony (depending on the severity of the case) which carries a fine and possibly five years in prison.
