One person was killed in a ATV wreck Friday night in Cherokee County.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler stated that the body of Roger Carl Chatman Jr., 38, of Mooresboro, North Carolina, was found on Mike's Creek Road by a passerby who was walking along the road around 8 pm.

Lance Cpl. Tony Keller of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said that Chatman was driving a Polaris ATV on Mike's Creek Road, about four miles north of Gaffney, around 7:30 p.m. when he lost control of the ATV and ran off the left side of the road. Chatman was ejected from the ATV after he hit a culvert and then struck a tree.

Keller said that Chatman was not wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck. According to Fowler, family members said that Chatman had been cutting trees at his residence earlier in the day and had decided to ride the four-wheeler.

Fowler said that Chatman died of blunt force trauma.
