ABBEVILLE COUNTY, S.C. -

Voters in Abbeville County are heading to the polls today, to choose a new Sheriff.

A special election is being held Tuesday to replace long-time sheriff Charles Goodwin. He resigned just before the Attorney General's office announced his indictment by a grand jury for misconduct in office.

Goodwin pleaded guilty to that charge. As a result, he received five years probation, 100 hours of community service and was ordered to pay $4,445 in restitution.

Abbeville County Coroner Ronnie Ashley is currently serving as sheriff.
