RALEIGH, N.C. -

A third straight week of NAACP protests at the North Carolina General Assembly prompted about 50 arrests Monday.

That brings the civil rights group's total since it launched its offensive against the Republican legislature to nearly 100.

Police arrested 49 people, up from last week's 30 and the previous week's 17.

One hundred fifty people joined the demonstrators in support, also the highest total yet.
