Madagascar Live comes to Busch Gardens

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

Busch Gardens is teaming up with DreamWorks to bring a new, live stage show to the Tampa theme park.

It's called "Madagascar Live: Operation Vacation." Families have the chance to meet their favorite characters from the movies, including Alex the lion, Gloria the hippo, and Mort the mouse lemur, and the penguins.

"I want to see all the characters, with the dancing and singing!" exclaimed K'Lynn Morganthal before the show.

The live stage show includes a live band. The one character that seemed to get everyone on their feet is King Julien the lemur, and his rendition of "I Like to Move It."

"Everyone started jumping up and dancing along with him and everything," said Adriana Sardinas.

The 20-minute show is free with the price of admission to Busch Gardens.  The show will run between two and four times each day. Families can see it in the park's newly renovated theater.

"The theater is very old and we just renovated it," said Busch Gardens president, Jim Dean. "We enclosed the theater, air-conditioned and heated it, so it's a year-round venue."

Kids will also get to meet their favorite characters out in the park.

"It's the perfect show for our park," said vice president of entertainment, Nancy Hutson. "They can come, have fun, sing along, dance, and just enjoy their very favorite characters."

The new show premieres Saturday May 18th.
