A Henderson County wanted has been arrested and charged with lighting the cross to a local church on fire.

Captain Steve Carter of the Henderson County Sheriff's Office said that deputies arrested Rebecca Eaton, 58, of Etowah, and charged her with felony arson burning of a religious church or building.

According to Carter, deputies responded to the Life Springs Wesleyan Church in the Etowah Shopping Center just after 1 pm. When they arrived, deputies found the cross attached to the front door of the church had been vandalized. A cloth that draped over the arms of the cross and the cross had been burned, along with the a portion of the brick and vinyl eave of the building.

The fire was extinguished prior to deputies arriving and nobody was injured. Less than $500 worth of damage was done to the church, Carter said.

Surveillance video obtained led deputies to identify Eaton and she was arrested a short time later at her residence. She is currently being held at the Henderson County Detention Center on $10,000 bond and will have a court appearance Friday morning.
