Council Wants Public Input On Smoking Ordinance

Posted: Updated:

Anderson County Council will have a second reading and public hearing, Tuesday, on an ordinance to stop smoking on County Property.

The ordinance says no person shall smoke any tobacco, tobacco-related product inside any County-owned vehicle; on the grounds of any real property owned or leased by the County.

The ordinance applies to certain outdoor areas and venues owned, leased or operated by the County. That includes Amphitheaters, ball parks, athletic fields and stadiums, picnic areas,  and playgrounds.

The ordinance would also give the County Administrator power to designate outdoor smoking areas near any government building.

If the ordinance passes, it would come with fines of $10-$25.

You can give your input at the County Council meeting on Tuesday, May 21st.
