OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. -

Oconee County may soon take control of municipal elections in Walhalla and Westminster.

County leaders will hold a public hearing on the issue Tuesday at 6 p.m. The hearing will take place in Council Chambers at the Oconee County Administrative Offices at 415 South Pine Street in Walhalla.

The hearing will focus on Ordinance 2013-10. It says:

"AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE OF TRANSFER OF AUTHORITY FOR MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS FOR THE CITY OF WALHALLA AND THE CITY OF WESTMINSTER AND AUTHORIZING AN INTERGOVERNMENT AGREEMENT OR EMBODYING DOCUMENT INCLUDING THE TERMS OF ANY AGREEMENT, WITH EACH; AND OTHER MATTERS RELATED THERETO"

Anyone wanting to weigh in on the matter can sign up to speak at Tuesday night's meeting. Written comments will also be accepted at any time prior to the hearing for inclusion in the official record.
