Five months. That's how long it's been since we've seen widespread discounts in stores.
Now the holiday sales are bringing shoppers like Amanda Cabe out of the woodwork.
"I save up every year until memorial day weekend to do this to go shopping for my little girl and to buy clothes specifically at this time of year because I find the best deals."
Clothes traditionally top the charts when it comes to the steepest discounts over the holiday weekend.
That's followed by home furnishings and appliances.
Experts say summer season items will remain hit or miss. You may find discounts on Patio furniture, BBQ items and swim wear, but grills and the like are still at top dollar.
There you'll also find special coupon codes that can really boost your savings.
"I haven't seen those coupon sites but I know a lot of my friends do that. I need to join the club my husband would really appreciate me joining the club," said shopper Jamie Adams in Spartanburg.
Now May is generally not the best month to buy electronics. It's a transition month. For instance the next generation HDTVs have just rolled out, so you won't likely find a good deal until the end of the summer."
Along those lines, hold off on the game consoles and Apple products. Dealnews says any tech you buy today will likely either be outdated or deeply discounted within the coming weeks.
But, whether you're buying half price ribs for a BBQ or showing of your own ribs in a new bikini.. count on this; your buck will go further this holiday weekend.
