Control of Anderson County's Emergency Services Up for Discussion

Posted: Updated:
ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. -

Anderson County's emergency services division could be getting new supervision.

It's been operating under the Anderson County Sheriff's Office since May 2010. However, a new proposal being considered by council Tuesday night would transfer the division to the control of the county administrator's office.

Anderson County Councilwoman Cindy Wilson says finances are what prompted the change. She says the division is constantly transferring money to and from different budgets. The resolution being considered Tuesday would have the county finance department oversee finances, and allow the emergency services division to focus on emergency preparedness.

Emergency Services Director Taylor Jones says this won't change how his department operates.

"We work with the administrator day to day anyhow," Jones said. "We are just assigned to the sheriff's division. We think some good things have been accomplished under the way it has been run and we will continue to run it in a positive way, whatever happens."

Anderson County Council will vote on the resolution during Tuesday night's meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. Click here to view the entire agenda.
