Second Jackson Co., NC Earthquake Reported

For the second time in a week an earthquake was reported in Jackson County, North Carolina. 

The United States Geological Survey says the earthquake occurred around 6:30 a.m. 6.8 miles southwest of Sylva.

According to the USGS website the depth of the earthquake was 3 miles.

No damage has been reported in this incident.

A 2.5 magnitude earthquake was reported Thursday morning west of Cullowhee, North Carolina.

The United States Geological Survey reports the earthquake happened at 9:58 a.m. about seven miles west of Cullowhee or less than 50 miles away from Asheville.

The depth of the earthquake in Jackson County was 4.4 miles according to the USGS website.

The USGS intensity map showed that shaking from the earthquake would have been weak to light, but not enough to cause damage.
