Sellers Considering A Run For Lieutenant Governor

Posted: Updated:

A 28-year-old Democratic state House member from Denmark is considering a run for lieutenant governor next year.

Rep. Bakari Sellers said Thursday he has created a committee to determine whether he has enough support and can raise enough money to run for South Carolina's second highest office.

Sellers says he isn't happy with how little the Legislature accomplished this year and he thinks if he is elected lieutenant governor he can help lawmakers fix the state roads, restructure government and make more positive changes in the state.

Current Republican Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell also plans to run again next year.

South Carolina voters will choose the lieutenant governor for the last time in 2014. Starting in 2018, a gubernatorial candidate will choose a lieutenant governor candidate as a running mate.
