ASHEVILLE, N.C. -

The North Carolina Department of Transportation announced it will close an Asheville road under Interstate 26.

Pond Road will be closed starting Monday, June 17, for 90 days while crews lower the grade to meet clearance requirements.  During the project, crews will also replace the Interstate bridges above the road to bring them up to today's standards.

A detour for Pond Road has been set up.  Motorists are asked to use Sardis and Brevard Roads until construction is complete.

DOT officials ask motorists to be alert and use caution in the area.
